(28) Musee de Glozel

A few kilometres from Ferrières-sur-Sichon, the Glozel Museum welcomes you: it is located in the last house of the hamlet. It is the Emile Fradin Museum that brings together the discoveries he made on March 1, 1924.

That day, Emile, Yvonne his sister, Claude their grandfather and Antoine their father clear their field near the Le Vareille stream below the hamlet. The foot of a hitch beast that pulls the plough sinks into a cavity: it is the starting point of the discoveries.

The museum presents more than 2500 objects in stone, bone, terracotta: face urns, tablets with inscriptions, bisexual idols, engraved pebbles, hooks, harpoons, needles, rings, necklaces… An important part of the objects are the inscriptions that we are still trying to decipher.

Several objects include beautiful engravings, animal sculptures.

This discovery will display the hamlet of Glozel on the press. A scientific controversy will shake the circles of archeology.

Le Musée de Glozel is one of the oldest Bourbonnais museums.
